Resistance To Disease Can Be Improved With The Use Of Immune System Herbs

Our world today is extremely busy. People are facing more stress and environmental pollution than ever and all of this puts a lot of strain on the immune system. When your immune system is depressed, you are at risk for all kinds of ailments. How can you help yourself? There are a number of herbal preparations that claim to bolster the immune system and most are pretty safe so what do you have to lose? Trying immune system herbs may be just what you need.

Echinacea has been used for years by the American Indians to treat colds, flu, and a variety of other ailments. It is one of the most popular herbs sold today. Echinacea has powerful anti-viral properties and should be taken at the first sign of a cold or flu. One thing to remember is that it is most effective when taken for short periods of time. Its effects diminish over time. Give your body a break from it. It can be taken for six to eight weeks with two weeks off and then resumed.

Goldenseal is another powerful herb for the immune system. It has anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties and may be combined with Echinacea to treat viral and bacterial infections. It is said to increase blood supply to the spleen which manufactures antibodies to fight infection. It is used to treat bronchitis, sinusitis, and yeast infections, to name a few.

Sage and garlic are two things that you can add to your diet to support the immune system. Sage has broad spectrum antibiotic and antiseptic properties. The American Indians often chewed the sage leaves as a tonic. I happen to love the taste of garlic, but for many people it’s just too strong, but garlic capsules are available. Garlic is rich in antibiotics and treats a broad range of conditions. It kills bacteria in the intestinal tract on contact. Garlic also increases synovial fluid production, so it may help with arthritis. It works best when eaten raw, but you can sauté it olive oil and add to pasta.

Honey is something people may not think of as an herbal remedy, but it has been shown to improve allergy symptoms. It is also a powerful antibiotic. I read that if you eat honey produced in your area, it helps with allergies to plants that the bees feed on. We have been using local honey ever since and it does help with my husband’s allergies, not mention it is delicious on toast. Pure raw honey was often used to preserve bodies in ancient times and is effective in healing burns. It is also active against staph, strep, and h. pylori bacteria and helps to heal stomach ulcers. It certainly couldn’t hurt to add some to your diet.

Immune system herbsmay help us all to combat the stress of everyday life. I think we all want to be as healthy as we possibly can be and if adding a few herbs to the diet will help, why not give it try?
